West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency, formed in the year 1993, has a mandate to promote Renewable Energy technologies and create an environment conducive to their commercialisation through innovative projects. The Agency, popularly known as WBREDA, has its corporate office at kolkata, India. WBREDA helps the State Government, Panchayats, Municipal Bodies, and NGOs on all matters relating to promotion of alternative sources of energy. WBREDA has a group of experts in the field of renewable sources of energy who are responsible for formulation, design and proper implementation of the projects related to renewable sources of energy. WBREDA has a programme to assist other States in respect of formulating project proposals on Village Electrification through Renewable Energy Sources, setting up of Energy Education Park Students from abroad visit projects of WBREDA in connection with their research activities etc.
UREDA has been encouraged to take a leading role in the development of the renewable energy sector in line with the guidance of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the conductive platform for the promotion of energy conservation. UREDA has installed renewable energy systems and devices at these places so as to illuminate these religious locations as also to supplement the energy requirement by way of providing green and clean energy.
Punjab Energy Development Agency was formed in Sept. 1991 as a state nodal agency for promotion and development of renewable energy programmes, projects and energy conservation programme in the state of Punjab. PEDA is registered as a Society under the Societies Act of 1860.
The corporation was established by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1982 as the nodal agency for implementing various programs and policies of the Government of India as well as the State Government for the renewable energy sector. The scope of activities extends from implementing various schemes for meeting the energy needs of rural areas to the promotion and setting up of industrial and commercial projects for the use of non conventional power. Besides implementing all Government sponsored programs and projects in this sector MPUVN, creates awareness about the benefits of energy conservation and renewable energy among users of various forms of energy.
The Government of J and K established the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Ltd (JKSPDCL) which has been incorporated as Pvt Ltd Company on 16th February 1995. The Corporation was incorporated to takeover, execute, complete, operate and maintain all power stations and power projects of the State. The assets of all the power projects in the State, both existing and under implementation were transferred to the Corporation. The Corporation presently has 20 hydroelectric projects with installed capacity of 758.70MW located in various districts of Jammu and Kashmir including 450MW BHEP.
As an autonomous organisation GEDA is registered under the Societies’ Registration Act 1860, and comes under the purview of Department of New and Renewable Sources of Energy, Secretariat. The Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations of GEDA, which were originally conceived in 1994 and incorporated in 1995, were amended in terms of, composition of General Body, enhancement of administrative and financial powers of the Member Secretary and deletion of clauses not relevant to the present day functioning of the Agency.
Gujarat Energy Development Agency, one of the premier organizations and a forerunner in India has been working in the field of renewable energy development and energy conservation. GEDA is shouldering the responsibility of a state nodal agency (SNA) for the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Sources (MoNRE) and the state designated agency (SDA) for Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
