Kerala to get country´s largest solar ferry
The backwaters of Kerala will soon have the country´s largest solar-powered ferry transporting vehicles and passengers between Vaikom and Thavanakadavu in Alappuzha. The ferry is being built by NavAlt, a Kochi-based joint venture, in collaboration with a French company.
The 20 metre long, 7 metre wide boat cost around Rs.1.7 crore and has a maximum cruising speed of 7.5 knots. It will be deployed in the backwaters of Alappuzha by the Kerala State Water Transport Department (KSWTD).
