BALCO setting up 1,200 mw plant

Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO) is in the process of setting up an additional power plant of 1,200 mw and 650,000 tonne per annum (t pa) aluminium smelter at Chhattishgarh.

BALCO is a group company of Vedanta Resources in aluminium business, having its integrated aluminium complex at Korba, Chhattisgarh, comprising an aluminium smelter of 245,000 t pa capacity with two captive power plants of 270 mw and 540 mw.

Listed in the London Stock Exchange, Vedanta Resources has presence in various mineral segments like zinc, copper, aluminium, iron ore, lead, silver.

Our Mumbai news bureau reports that BALCO wants to engage some well reputed, resourceful, technically and financially sound suppliers and well experienced service providers for various purposes as follows.

It is looking out contractors for custom handling agency and transportation of imported cargo from various Indian seaports to Balco, Korba. Besides, it is in the process of engaging contractors for ash pond raising works, local operation at Balco power plants, scrap handling and miscellaneous activities and pot start-up activity in smelter.
