CleanMax Solar has bagged the prestigious contract of powering the Chennai metro with clean solar power. This involves installation of rooftop and ground mounted solar PV plants at 12 metro stations and the Koyambedu Maintenance depot in Chennai, thus providing low-cost and renewable solar energy for CMRL’s operations.

Once fully operational, the total capacity of rooftops and ground mounted power systems CMRL’s facilities will be 6 MW, which will make it once of the largest on site solar projects in India. Chennai Metro’s transition to sustainable energy is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emission by 7,438 tonne p.a. and help save Rs 150 lakh p.a.

Commenting on the project, Andrew Hines, Co-founder, CleanMax Solar said, “We are delighted that CleanMax has been awared the prestigious Chennai Metro contract, and we commend CMRL for their commitment to harnessing solar energy. We look forward to working with civic authorities and the Chennai Metro technical teams to roll out this large and complex on site solar project, and are confident that it will set the benchmark for other government ventures to follow suit.”
