Highest Growth Genration Company in The Last Year(Thermal Power - Private Sector) - Tata Power

Tata Power is India's largest private sector power generation company, which started its operations in 1911. The company has been detrimental in shaping up the power needs for the city of Mumbai and has ensured consistent supply of power for the city; recently the company also increased its customer base in Mumbai to 3.8 lakh customers in a very short span of time. Projects of around 5,500 MW are under several stages of implementation. The company has the plans to achieve an installed generation capacity of 26,000 MW, 4,000 MW in distribution and MTPA of energy resources by 2020.

Key Success Factors
Apart from being the pioneers in power production in the private sector, Tata Power has many firsts to its credit:

  • First in India to commence a Ultra Mega Power Project of 4000 MW at Mundra.
  • First to commission Gas Insulated Switchgear 220kV & 110kV.
  • Touch screen-based Distributed Digital Control, Computerised Grid Control and Energy Management Systems.
  • 220 kV Cable Transmission Network. Flue Gas De-sulphurisation Plant using sea water.
  • First to install Fly Ash Aggregate Plant to convert waste product (fly ash) into a useful building material.
  • First to introduce SCADA and Fibre Optic Ground Wire Communication.
  • Tata Power accounts for 50% of the total generation capacity of the private sector.
  • Charting higher growth plans, the company has successfully commissioned 120 MW Haldia (West Bengal), 120 MW Power House No. 6 (Jamshedpur), 120 MW Unit 5 at Jojobera and 250 MW Unit 8 at Trombay to increase its generation capacities. The 4000 MW Ultra Mega Power project has been recently completed and all 5 units have been commissioned. Some of its new projects under implementation 1600 MW Coastal Maharashtra Project 652.5 MW Kalinganagar thermal project, 660 MW Naraj Marthapur Thermal project, 1,980 MW Tiruldih thermal project and more.
  • The company has a strong presence in the international markets also spanning across Cyprus, South Africa, Singapore, Australia, Mauritius, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
  • As on March 31, 2013, the company had the following credit ratings - a Corporate Credit Rating of BB - with a Negative outlook from Standard & Poor's Rating Services and a corporate family rating of B1 with a Stable outlook by Moody's Investor Services.
