BEML’s windmill park dedicated to nation

BEML Limited, a Mini Ratna Category-1 Public Sector Company under the Ministry of Defence, has set for itself an unique goal of utilising 100 per cent renewable energy for its consumption. In this endeavour, the company’s 9 MW windmill park installed at Dammur village in Bagalkot district of Karnataka was dedicated to the nation by Arun Jaitley through video-conferencing from Delhi.

Minister of State for Defence Dr Subhash Bhamre, graced the occasion as guest of honour in the presence of AK Gupta, Secretary (Defence Production), GoI, and Deepak Kumar Hota, Chairman and Managing Director, BEML.
The 9 MW Windmill being commissioned will be generating electricity to power the manufacturing units of BEML located at Kolar Gold Fields, Bangalore and Mysore. Apart from this, BEML has already installed a 5 MW windmill project at Kappatagudda in Gadag district of Karntaka.

Power generated from the Kappatagudda wind mill has been utilised since 2007, and almost 68 per cent of the company’s energy needs are now being met through green energy, due to the latest addition.

After commissioning the balance windmill projects on the anvil, BEML is to produce substantial units of electricity and reduce carbon footprint each year, with plans to progress towards being a ‘Green Company’ and contribute towards National Green Energy Mission
