PFC extends bidding for Chhattisgarh UMPP
August 2010
The nodal agency for ultra mega power projects (UMPP), Power Finance Corporation, further extended the deadline for submitting initial requests for participation in bidding for the Chhattisgarh project by two months. This is the second extension of the deadline. The last date for submission of Request for Qualification (RFQ) bids for the project was May 3, which was extended to July 5, delaying the project further. The deadline was extended as the government is yet to clarify the status of the captive coal block bundled with the 4,000 MW Chhattisgarh UMPP. The coal ministry had allocated the Pindarakhi and Puta Parogia coal blocks in 2009 for the UMPP. But these coal blocks fall in the densely forested Hasdeo Arand coal belt, which has been declared as a no-go area for mining by the environment and coal ministries.
