Orissa earmarks Rs 3,200 cr to four discoms
September 2010

As high as Rs 3,200 crore would be provided by Orissa Government over the next 4-5 years to four power distribution utilities, in order to facilitate systems upgradation, which is aimed at a reduction in transmission and distribution (T&D) losses. The four are the Central Electricity Supply Utility (Cesu) North-Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Orissa (Nesco), Southern Electricity Supply Company of Orissa and Western Electricity Supply Company (Wesco). The funds will come in the forms of grants as well as loans. Other investments for systems upgradation are also under way. The Orissa Power Transmission Corporation (OPTCL) has decided to invest Rs 500 crore every year for the next four years on system upgradation. Under this, transformers in 11 industrial hubs in the state are being upgraded. This project is set for completion by February next year.
