Gaining momentum

BHEL has over the last few years strengthened its positioning through increased localisation of super critical technologies, higher in-house value additions and increased use of initiatives like reverse auctions for vendor procurements, design optimisation efforts and modernisation of manufacturing facilities, etc.
With a widespread network of 17 manufacturing units, two repair units, four regional offices, eight service centres, eight overseas offices, 15 regional centres, seven joint ventures, and infrastructure to execute more than 150 project sites across India and abroad, BHEL provides products, systems and services to customers efficiently and at competitive prices. Most manufacturing units and other entities have been accredited to Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2008), Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2004) and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems (OHSAS 18001:2007).

New initiatives

  • MoU with Solar Energy Corporation, PGCIL, SJVNL, Sambhar Salts, and Rajasthan Electronics for setting up a 4 GW Ultra Mega Solar Power Project at Sambhar, Rajasthan.
  • Also, the company has plans to set up an integrated manufacturing facility for 480 MW Solar PV systems (Wafers-Cells-Modules).
  • In HVDC, BHEL has augmented its facilities for manufacturing UHVDC equipment.
  • BHEL has also developed and supplied 400 kV Control Shunt Reactor, Fixed series compensation schemes for transmission utilities.

Expanding the product portfolio

  • 765 kVa transformers and reactors are awaiting pre-qualifications from NTPC/PGCIL.
  • GIS up to 145 kVa has been commercialised by BHEL.
  • Setting up the Mainline Electric Multiple Unit factory in Rajasthan at a capex of Rs 1,000 crore has been delayed.
  • Electric loco manufacturing capacity has been expanded from 50 in FY12 to 75 in FY14.

  • Expanding power sector portfolio
  • Focusing on enhancement of EPC projects in thermal plants.
  • Strengthened capabilities in BOP segment such as transformers, switchyard, coal handling, ash handling, water treatment, civil works etc.
  • Exploration of new business models with partnerships with power plant developers.
