KEI and Brugg Kabel tie up

With the turnaround in economy and the government’s increasing focus on power projects, the demand for extra high voltage cables up to 400 kV is likely to grow exponentially. This demands a requirement of transmission and distribution of power through underground cables. A report.

KEI Industries’ recent entry into a technical collaboration agreement with Switzerland based Brugg Kabel AG reflects the anticipation by the industry of a new hike in demand in extra-high voltage cables. The Swiss company is a leader in the manufacture of high voltage and extra high voltage cables along with jointing cable accessories upto the range of 500 kV.

The collaboration will allow KEI know how transfer about the design, manufacturing, testing, techniques, training of KEI’s design personnel in manufacturing of cables and jointing techniques along with the complete EHV system design of
the EHV cables. Thus the collaboration will benefit KEI to make their presence felt in extra high voltage cable segment by securing contracts from various public utilities along with the private segments.

EHV cables will also attract demand for connections to bulk power consumers in the industry sectors, like, cement, steel, refineries, petrochemicals amongst others.
