Power 20:20 | Reliance Power Transmission Limited (RPTL)

Transmission companies that laid the most network last year (private company) : Reliance Power Transmission Ltd

Reliance Power Transmission Limited (RPTL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of RInfra. It has led the transition from a conventional generation linked evacuation regime to network expansion based on integrated system planning.

RPTL has become the leading private utility firm to have secured the first setup of projects worth Rs 1,370 crore in the Western Region System Strengthening Schemes. Six transmission lines associated with the Western Region System Strengthening Scheme II Project B and C with a cumulative line length of about 1,440 circuit km in Maharashtra and Gujarat have already been commissioned and are being successfully operated with a record availability of more than 99 per cent.

It is also executing the Parbati Koldam Transmission project worth Rs 1,070 crore in Himachal Pradesh for the Northern Regional grid.

The Mumbai transmission division is constantly being strengthened by various schemes.

The company is the largest private player in the Indian power transmission sector and is currently implementing three inter-State transmission projects consisting of 12 transmission lines across the length and breadth of the national grid.

Key Success Factors

  • Presence across sectors: Unlike other transmission companies in the sector, RPTL has sister companies across the entire power distribution sphere including generation, transmission and distribution.
  • Major Cash Reserves: The company has significant cash reserves to help facilitate investment across transmission projects across the country. This ensures that the organisation will not have liquidity issues in the future.
  • Large pipeline of projects: The company has a strong and dependent pipeline of projects across the entire country including the Western Region System Strengthening Scheme and the Prabhati Koldam Transmission Projects.
  • The construction of the three lines in Maharashtra is expected to be commissioned during 2013-14.
  • The third project namely Parbati Koldam Transmission Project being executed in a joint venture with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has achieved significant construction progress.
  • With all the enabling clearances required to execute the project being in place, commissioning is expected to be achieved by the close of 2013-14.
  • The transmission business has maintained its high standards with network availability of 99.77 per cent for the year, thus ranking as one of the top performing utilities.
