Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a public sector entity under the administration of Ministry of Power, has distributed over 3 crore LED bulbs under its flagship initiative, the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP).
The scheme is presently running in six states in India - Rajasthan, Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh - and is rapidly expanding across all other states. The three crore LED bulbs distributed by EESL will result in an annual energy savings of 4 billion Kwh, capacity addition avoidance of 900 MW and cost savings of Rs 304 crores and has impacted over 90 lakh consumers.
While officially announcing the milestone, Union Minister for Power and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal, said, ´A scheme like DELP is an example of India´s commitment to ensuring energy access and its continued efforts towards combatting climate change. EESL´s achievement of distributing over three crore bulbs is commendable. I urge more citizens to come forward and contribute to the government´s vision of an energy efficient India.´
