JK Agarwal, Jt. Managing Director, Genus Power and Chairman, IEEMA - Meter Division; and Manjushri Shah, Convener, Metering India 2017, talk about the upcoming event..
What are your thoughts on this year´s event? What are your expectations?
Indian power distribution utilities are incurring heavy losses and it has become imperative to deploy a right mix of people, process and technology in order to make them sustainable. ´Metering India 2017, towards smart and sustainable future aims at showcasing the global thought processes of the best minds in our eco-system from policy, industry, utilities, regulatory, testing laboratories, etc., in order to cater to the blazing issues faced by various stakeholders. The event is expected to pick up and debate diverse perspectives, expectations and experiences in order to add tremendous value to the participating delegates through this collective knowledge sharing process, that includes all aspects of the metering domain like smart meters, communication technologies, energy conservation, IT infrastructure, smart meter pilot roll-out so far, etc.
How far do such events go in shaping thoughts and generating awareness about sustainable practices?
In day-to-day operational pressures it becomes difficult to take a peep at the innovative sustainable practices. Events like Metering India provide a great platform to the relevant stake holder to gain through the cumulative sectoral expertise and make a difference within their own operational areas, from a sustainability standpoint.
India´s power sector is purported to have huge growth potential, what new opportunities do you think the industry can look forward to?
Power is a growth engine of the future. Sustainability of the distribution sector itself will fuel the growth of other sectors in our country. Moreover, we are poised to enter the aspirational future which demands proactive, smart and speedy solutions which are sustainable. This will open up requirements in areas of high level technical skills, speedy project implementations, smart city infrastructure, IT infrastructure, communication infrastructure, and payment infrastructures, along with smart metering manufacturers, smart devices, etc.
