In the wake of continuing power cuts and with an aim to reduce pollution caused by diesel generators, the Bijnor collectorate will soon have a massive 15 KW solar panel installed. Set up under the Solar Mission scheme of the central government, it will come at a 50 per cent subsidized rate and will cost Rs 20 lakh.
The collectorate has all the main administrative offices of the district magistrate (DM), chief district officer (CDO) and others. ´The solar panel will be installed to set an example to encourage city residents too to install solar panels in their homes. This panel at the collectorate will be able to run computers, fans and lights,´ said RK Pandey, project manager, Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).
According to the data given by the authorities at Collectorate, from August 2014 to January 2015, the electricity bill for the Collectorate was a total of Rs 4.17 lakh.
