GoI appeals to consumers to switch to LED bulbs
The Ministry of Power has stated that UJALA, GoI’s energy saving initiative has already resulted in 55,700,270 kWh worth of energy savings and reduced over 45,000 tonnes of carbon emissions; and that consumers should not get influenced by surveys presenting incorrect information about the distribution process of the UJALA scheme.
Tangedco to join central scheme for power distributors
After much dithering, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has decided to join the Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana (Uday) scheme of the Central government. A team from the state led by power minister P Thangamani will soon meet Union power minister Piyush Goyal to discuss the modalities for joining the Centre's flagship scheme for power discoms across the country.
Coal India to supply blended fuel for import substitution at thermal plants
Coal India is tweaking its longterm forward e-auction calendar to supply a mix of coal with high-energy and low energy content simultaneously. The two categories, when blended in a 30:70 ratio, can readily substitute the fuel requirements of import-based thermal power plants located in coastal regions.
Govt wins nine cases on coal block auctions
The government has won all the nine cases in which high courts have given verdict on petitions filed by coal block bidders following disputes over e-auction provisions, according to government data. The winning spree can be considered a vindication of the e-auction as these nine favourable verdicts came even as 31 of the 40 cases which were disposed of by the courts were either dismissed or petitioners decided against pursuing them.
Cairn India, Vedanta merger sealed with revised terms
The Boards of Vedanta Limited and Cairn India announced approval of the revised and final terms for the merger. "The Boards of Vedanta Limited and Cairn India have approved revised and final terms for the Transaction, taking into account prevailing market conditions and having regard to underlying commercial factors," a company release stated.
