State-run Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) awarded a contract worth Rs 573 crore to the French firm Alstom for supplying components for three units of 660 mw boilers of a thermal power project at Nabinagar in Bihar.
Nabinagar Power Generating Company is a joint venture of NTPC and Bihar State Electricity Board. Alstom is the sole licensor of the super-critical technology of BHEL and is also collaborating with BHEL for the project. BHEL secured the Nabinagar project as part of the NTPC Bulk 660 mw tender.
BHEL is a leading power equipment manufacturer in the country and it was recently granted Maharatna status by the central government. The turnover and profit of the firm has steadily risen since 2009-10, Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Praful Patel said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha recently.
Meanwhile, BHEL is looking out for manufacturers of start up system control valves and warm keeping level control valves with accessories. The manufacturer must commission the spares at Yeramarus unit 1 and 2 (1,600 mw project).
