Bihar government has identified 2,400 acre of land at Katoria in Banka district for the proposed 4,000 MW power plant project to be executed by the union power ministry in association with CEA and Power Finance Corporation (PFC). It is learnt that the identified site for the coal based power project is approved by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and the process for land acquisition would begin soon. Also, the water resources development department of the state government approved the water linkage from the Ganga for this project. Bihar will receive 2,000 MW of power from the 4,000 MW generated at the plant. The remaining would be given to central quota. The plant is likely to be commissioned in the next five to six years. The identified land is only 14 km from the town of Banka and water can be supplied from Sultanganj which is 65 km from the site. The plant can draw 120 cusec of water. In July last year, a high level technical team comprising officials from CEA and PFC had come to Bihar and studied the topography of the state along with the available resources for setting up the plant.
