Media reports indicate that Bihar government would spend Rs 2,000 crore on computerisation of the power distribution centres in certain towns so that distribution losses can be monitored on a regular basis.
It would spend the amount on distribution centres in towns which have a population of more than 30,000. The government is quite confident to bring down the power distribution loss significantly following computerisation and strengthening of the power distribution centres. Bihar has always a very dismal performance when it comes to reducing electric transmission and distribution (T&D) losses, which are as high as 36 per cent.
The state government will also enter into a 25-year agreement with Power Grid Corporation of India to reduce the transmission losses in the State by implementing a Rs 6,000-crore project.
Bihar will also set up a separate agriculture feeder to provide better irrigation facilities in the state. This separate feeder for the agriculture sector will help the state achieve various targets fixed in the Rs 1.5 Agriculture Road Map which aims at bringing rainbow revolution in the next five years.
The project which will be completed by June 2016 is covering Biharsharif, Motihari, Bettiah, Ara, Buxar, Samastipur and Begusarai.
