Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) will add new facilities at its Vizag refinery to convert low-value heavy oils into premium products, which will significantly increase refining margins. This will be part of its Rs 8,000 crore project to expand the refinery's capacity to 15 million tonne a year from the current 8.3 million tonne. The project also involves installing a new 180,000 barrels per day, or nine million tonne a year crude distillation unit in place of the old 36,000 bpd unit.SPM berth at Vizag port to save Rs 180 crore/yearThe newly-commissioned single-point mooring (SPM) berth at Visakhapatnam port may save over Rs 180 crore annually for the public sector refiner. The earlier berth at Vizag port could handle only up to 150,000 tonne capacity ship tankers to unload crude oil. But if the crude oil is imported through very large crude carriers (VLCCs) that can carry between 250,000 and 300,000 tonne, the freight charges will come down substantially. The berth, was set up by HPCL along with Vizag port with an investment of Rs 650 crore. HPCL uses Vizag port to import crude oil- about 10 million tonne every year-for its Visakha refinery.Contact: HPCLTel: +91 022 2284 5158 Web: www.hindustanpetroleum.com
