Haryana is facing acute power-crunch these days. The ruling Congress government's claims of making Haryana a power surplus state in the coming years stands exposed with the fact that out of a total 20 units in five power plants of Hayana, 13 are lying shut with zero power generation for the last many months.
With a total capacity of around 4,974.4 mw power generation, Haryana's power plants are generating an average of 1,500 mw power daily. As a result, the state is purchasing power from other states to meet its power demand of over 4,000 mw daily. Faulty and defective equipment used in power stations and non-availability of adequate amount of coal have been blamed for poor power situation.
Haryana's Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam — are facing a revenue gap of over Rs 5,800 crore, for which the corporations have submitted a proposal to Haryana's Electricity Regulatory Commission for revision in electricity tariff in the state for all categories of consumers.
