The Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA) has provided 2,350 solar lamps to Hazaribagh district administration. These lamps will be given to the people of those villages with low power supply.
The Solar lamps are to be distributed on subsidised rate, so the district administration has directed the block officials to prepare a list of beneficiaries. JREDA has supplied 1,700 CFL and 650 LED solar lamps. The cost of CFL based solar lamps is about Rs 2,850 while the rate of LED based lamps is Rs 1,628.
Villagers will have to pay Rs 850 for CFL based lamps and Rs 228 for LED based lamps. Preference is to be given to the families having more number of students.
A subsidy of Rs 2,000 on CFL based lamps and Rs 1,400 on LED based lanterns has made the scheme so attractive that people who are capable of purchasing it without subsidy have started finding ways to grab the benefit which is meant for poor people.
