In Jharkhand, 96 per cent (18,105) of electrification works have been completed of un-electrified villages and 90 per cent (5,739) of partially electrified villages under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) cumulatively, as on June 30. Free electricity connections to 12,98,825 (88 per cent) below poverty line (BPL) households have also been released under the scheme.
Rs 2756.53 crore has been released by Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) to implementing agencies towards subsidy as against the total revised project cost of Rs 3,479.30 crore in the state, said the Union Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya M Scindia recently in the Rajya Sabha.
The rural electrification scheme in Jharkhand has been facing some problems in implementation like, delay in forest clearance for the land proposals required for execution of the projects in few districts, difficult terrain and dense forest in some districts of the state and to some extent law & order problem including Maoist violence in large parts of the state.
