From its Rs 300-crore worth 'waste to energy' project Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to generate 30 mw of power. The contract for the ambitious project will be awarded to a consortium of Ramky Enviro Engineers and Chinese firm Chongqing Sanfeng Environmental Industry Group this week, MMRDA Commissioner UPS Madan said in Mumbai last week. MMRDA can process nearly 2,500 tonne of municipal waste to generate electricity through the the project, being developed on a public-private partnership basis. Madan said that MMRDA expects that the project, coming up at Taloja, to generate nearly 30 mw of power and the contract will be awarded shortly. The project will collect waste from six municipal corporations including Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Badlapur, Bhiwandi in the region, he said.
