State-run power producer NTPC would aim to generate 242 billion units of electricity in 2013-14 and produce 4 million metric tonne (mn mtpa) of coal from its own captive mines.
The largest thermal power producer in the country agreed to the above target in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Union Ministry of Power recently.
The MoU also says that NTPC envisages fresh capacity addition of 1,875 mw in 2013-14. Arup Roy Choudhury CMD, NTPC and P Uma Shankar, Secretary Power signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Also part of the MoU are milestones related to other ongoing projects and mines of NTPC. Ministry of Power shall support NTPC in the areas related to commercial, fuel security and ash utilisation and land acquisition.
During the financial year 2012-13, NTPC has added 4,170 mw which is the highest ever capacity addition by NTPC in any financial year.
The total commercial capacity of NTPC has become 34,820 mw and the total commissioned capacity of NTPC Group becomes 41,184 mw.
