Even as ambitious plans of Noida and Greater Noidadiscoms to establish non-conventional energy projects are yet to take shape, NTPC-Dadri is all set to begin operations of a 5 mw solar power plant by the end of this month. The solar plant, built at a cost of Rs 48.59 crore, will be the first non-conventional energy project of the district.
With its commissioning, the Dadri unit of NTPC will also be the first non-conventional energy project from several such works undertaken by the public sector utility in the entire country. The plant is estimated to generate around 7.26 million units of power annually and will reduce 0.82 metric tonnes of carbon emissions per megawatt-hour of power produced.
TPC had hired Wipro for the supply of equipment and building of the plant. Plans for similar environmental-friendly power projects by Noida Authority and Noida Power Company (NPCL), the discom of Greater Noida, have remained on paper. The 1mw solar project proposed by NPCL nearly two years back is yet to enter construction phase, while the board of Noida Authority recently cleared a plan for setting up a 1 mw solar plant at the junction of Sectors 135-152.
