Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya M Scindia informed the Rajya Sabha that four additional inter regional links between NEW (North-East-Western) Grid and Southern Grid (SR) have been planned for execution.
These projects were planned to ensure better and uniform distribution of power between the various regions, he said. These are:
(i) Raichur – Sholapur 765 kV two single circuit lines.
(ii) Kolhapur (new) – Narendra 765 kV double circuit line (to be initially operated 400 kV)
(iii) Wardha – Hyderabad 765 kV double circuit line.
iv) Angul – Srikakulam – Vemagiri 765 kV double circuit line
Three HVDC links totaling to 4000 MW capacity already exist between Southern Grid and the Northern-Eastern-Western (NEW) grid:
• 2000 MW, ±500 kV, Talcher (Odisha) – Kolar (Karnataka) HVDC bipole, connecting Eastern and Southern Regions.
• 1000 MW HVDC back-to-back at Gazuwaka (Andhra Pradesh), connecting Eastern and Southern Regions.
• 1,000 MW HVDC back-to-back at Chandrapur (Maharashtra), connecting Western and Southern Regions.
