Rs10,000 crore The central government´s coffers are likely to swell by more than Rs 10,000 crore when the allottees of the coal blocks cancelled by the Supreme Court pay the mandated additional levy of Rs 295 per metric tonne on fuel extracted till March 31, 2015. A total of 37 operational blocks required to pay additional levy produced over 325 million tonnes of coal till October, requiring the firms owning these blocks to pay overRs 9,600 as fine. These blocks are expected to extract another 30 million tonnes of coal till the end of the financial year to March 31, taking the total additional levy to about Rs 10,495 crore. As per the deadline imposed by the Supreme Court, the companies have to pay the amount for the coal extracted till September 24 by the end of this calendar year. The compensation amount on coal mined after September 24 and till March 31, 2015 is to be paid by June 30, 2015.
