After the success of the trail run of the electric bus between Doon and Mussoorie, the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) is planning to add 500 more buses to its fleet in the coming three years.
After conducting test runs of the bus for 20 days, no complexities were witnessed, informed Deepak Jain, General Manager, UTC. Without any problem, the bus plied in a 35 km route. UTC is now planning to initiate a test run of the electric bus on the Nainital-Haldwani route in the forthcoming month.
The state will be buying 51 buses in its first phase and the 500 buses will be procured in the next three years. At the moment, UTC has 1,000 buses right now and intents to raise the number to 1,500. The new buses will be running in a Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
