The state-run Coal India Ltd. (CIL) is likely to miss its production target of 550 million tonne (MT) for the financial year 2015-´16 by 10-15 MT, due to slump in demand. According to coal secretary Anil Swarup, the demand slump is due to the financial condition of discoms, which are not picking up power, thereby affecting the coal off-take.
He said that producing 550 MT would be difficult, given the circumstances, but the PSU would be able to produce anywhere between 535 and 540 MT.
