JK starts talks with Punjab to gets its power share

Jammu and Kashmir government has started fresh negotiations with Punjab government to get its legitimate share of electricity from the Thein Dam Hydel project. A three member panel has been constituted by the government to get electricity from the project in accordance with the agreement signed by former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah with his Punjab counterpart Prakash Singh Badal in 1979.

Punjab's Rajpura thermal plant to start on Dec 8

The first unit of the 1,400 mw Rajpura thermal power plant in Punjab will start generating power on December 8, said the Punjab Government on June 9. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, while reviewing the construction and progress of thermal plant entailing a cost of Rs 9,000 crore said the second unit of the plant will be commissioned on ‘Baisakhi’ day next year.

Court adjourns hearing on auction of mines

The Punjab and Haryana high court adjourned a case on the auction of mining areas by Punjab government for hearing on November 22 along with cases of similar nature. A local resident Gurbir Singh Pannu filed a public interest litigation seeking directions to the Punjab government to put on auction all mining areas cleared for environmental impact in a transparent, timebound manner.

Punjab to set up thermal plant in Jharkhand

As part of its efforts to increase power generation capacity, the Punjab government will be setting up a thermal plant in Jharkhand with a minimum capacity of 1,320 mw, said the Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. The Punjab government is all set to establish one thermal plant at pithead of state's coal mine in Jharkhand, the mininster said.
