India's streetlights form a crucial component of the nation's investment in lighting and road safety. GoI’s UJALA scheme launched in Malaysia
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under Ministry of Power, Government of India will replicate UJALA in the Malaysian state of Melaka, and extend the programme benefits to people of the region. Andhra villages to get solar rooftop power systems soon
A total of 171 remote tribal villages in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts of Andhra Pradesh will be electrified with solar rooftops, MM Nayak, CMD of AP Electricity Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) has said.

With the highest coal production growth in over two decades adding to fuel supply scalability, augmentation of generation capacities, increase in transmission lines and record consumption levels with the distribution of 2.3 crore LED bulbs, India has emerged as the fifth largest producer and consumer of electricity with a capacity of 302 GW.
The Indian LED lighting market is expected to reach Rs.31,010 crore, growing at a CAGR of 62 per cent between 2016-20. There has been increased focus by the government towards energy conservation and efficiency in the last few years.

India´s power sector is at an inflection point, given the government´s conviction that electricity is a critical enabler for economic growth. Distribution sector in particular, is in the focus with new generation of reforms initiated by the government.
