Govt prepares plan for exploring 37 coal blocks in 12th plan

For the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17), the government has prepared a programme for exploration of 37 coal blocks which would be put for competitive bidding. This information was given by the Minister of State for Coal Pratik Prakashbapu Patil in the Lok Sabha. These 37 blocks include three forest covered mines, he said.

According to a government report, the Centre envisages a capacity addition of 5,300 MW in nuclear power during the 12th Five Year Plan, which includes two 1,000 MW units at Kudankulam which are being built by Nuclear Power Corporation with Russian collaboration.

Nuclear Power Corporation (NPC) informed that it expects to achieve generation of 32,000 million units. Currently its 20 plants are operating at 90 per cent availability, and at 78-79 per cent plant load factor owing to the unavailability of adequate fuel.
