Kolkata to get India's 1st floating solar power station
Kolakata may soon get India's first floating solar power station. Research on the project has been completed and the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has funded it. It is expected to be implemented by 2014. Already such floating solar power stations are working in Asian giants-Japan and Singapore. Solar power stations will have floating platforms (usually hexagonal)fitted with solar panels to generate more energy than land-based plants.

West Bengal gets Centre's aid for solar PV projects
The West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency has received financial assistance from Ministry of New And Renewable Energy for various off-grid solar photovoltaic systems and power projects. During 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13, the Agency received Rs 11.78 crore, Rs 12.47 crore, Rs 8.12 crore and Rs 3.82 crore respectively for the solar projects.
