UNCLEAR to NUCLEAR
The Union Cabinet on May 17, 2017 gave its approval for construction of 10 nuclear units of the new indigenously developed 700 MWe (mega watt electric) pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWRs) as part of its clean energy thrust.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Madhusudan Sahoo as Chairperson of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board for a period of five years or until further orders, whichever is the earliest, stated the order uploaded on the website of the department of personnel and training.
Meghalaya to push for resumption of coal mining
The Meghalaya cabinet approved a proposal made by the Mining and Geology department to exclusively follow up with different ministries of the Centre to ensure that coal mining resumed in the state at the earliest.
States get more time to join UDAY
State governments are now allowed to subscribe to Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY), this financial year too. The Cabinet approved the extension of UDAY, which earlier had a deadline of March 2016.

BRICS countries sign MoUs in energy saving and efficiency
The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has given its ex-post facto approval to an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between India and its BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) counterparts, aimed at strengthening and further developing of energy saving and energy efficiency cooperation based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit.
