Awaiting discom revival
About 10 years down the line India´s energy sector seems to have turned around from an era of scarcity and now faces the problem of plenty, with over 25,000 MW of capacity lying idle or underutilised. The sad part is that states are not acquiring or buying power to be able to give their residents uninterrupted power supply.
´Stranded´ power plants: bidding for gas imports by month-end
Bidding process for the empowered pool management committee, which is overseeing import of fuel for stranded gas-based power plants, is expected to start by April-end, to ensure that power purchase agreements are in place by June so that fuel supplies for the monsoon season (June to September) are confirmed to fire up the plants, a senior Power Ministry official said.
Ministry mulls gas pooling proposal
The Power Ministry has worked out a plan to pool the existing limited supply of domestic gas with imported regasified liquefied petroleum gas to help operationalise stranded gas-based power plants with a cumulative capacity of 16,107 MW.
