Coal import call by power ministry temporary

The recent decision of allowing states to import coal which was drawn by the Union Power Ministry is temporary in nature, informed Piyush Goyal, Coal Minister. He further confirmed that there has been a steady growth in coal production and dispatches by Coal India.

Andhra Pradesh has taken the first step towards becoming self-reliant in the power sector by entering into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Union Power Ministry to implement 'Power For All' (24x7 power supply) in the State from October 2 this year. Govt proposes price pooling for imported, domestic gas

Price pooling has been proposed by the Union Power Ministry for imported and domestically produced natural gas to be supplied to power plants stranded by a drop in production of the fuel from Reliance Industries' KG-D6 block. The ministry floated a Cabinet note last week to seek government's permission to pool imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) with the fuel available from the KG-D6 block after meeting the requirements of fertiliser units.

Under the government approved Financial Restructuring Package (FRP), the Union Power Ministry is likely to allow the state electricity boards of Karnataka, Jharkhand and Bihar to convert their outstanding loans, till March 2013, into bonds.
