Kanpur Electricity Supply Company Ltd was formed on 14 January 2000 under U.P. Electricity reform act 1999. This company is registered for distribution of electricity in the area under Kanpur City (Urban) by U.P. Government Gazette No. 118/P.-1/2000/24-152-P./98 published on 13/01/2000. According to geographic condition the complete region of Kanpur Nagar Nigam is decided as the work area of KESCo. Boundaries of above KESCo region are upto river Ganga in North, upto river Pandu in South, upto I.I.T. campus in West and upto villages of Chakari in East. The total area supplied electricity by KESCo is around 500 Square K.M., which comes in jurisdiction of Kanpur Nagar Nigam. Kanpur is the main hub of industries in North India.
The Company, Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. was incorporated on the 23rd day of October, 2009 as a Public Ltd company wholly owned by the Government of Assam. The ultimate object of the company is to undertake the electricity distribution, trading, supply in the state of Assam or outside in accordance with provisions of Applicable Law and all activities ancillary or appurtenant thereto. The main purpose of forming the Company was to take over, manage and operate the electricity distribution system, assets, liabilities, undertaking of the Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB), as may be transferred to it pursuant to a notified transfer scheme in terms of Part XIII of the Electricity Act, 2003. Subsequently, the Government of Assam notified the provisional transfer scheme vide Gazette notification bearing no. PEL. 151/2003/Pt./165 dated 10th December, 2004 as well as the final transfer scheme vide Gazette Notification PEL.151/2003/ Pt./349 dated Dispur, the 16th August, 2005 under the Electricity Act, 2003 transferring the various assets, liabilities etc. of the ASEB to the Company. The main object of the company is to develop, maintain and operate power distribution system in the state of Assam.
Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPNL) was incorporated as a company under the Companies Act, 1956 on 19th August 1997 and was granted the certificate to commence its business on 18th September 1997. Subsequently, the transmission and distribution businesses of the erstwhile HSEB were transferred to HVPNL on 14th August 1998. This was done through transfer scheme, notified by the Government, vide Notification No. SO/06/HA/98/S 23,24 and 25/99, dated 14.08.1998 which entrusted HVPNL with the functions of Power transmission and distribution. The Company holds Business License issued by HERC for Transmission and Bulk supply of Power in Haryana.
The company was incorporated in the year 1997 under the Companies Act,1956 as a Public Limited Company. The Company started functioning with effect from 26-11-1998, under the distribution and retail supply license of GRIDCO, after notification in the official gazette by the Govt. of Odisha. SOUTHCO received the Distribution and Retail Supply license from Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC).
GIPCL was incorporated in 1985 as Public Limited company under the auspices of Government of Gujarat. The company is engaged in business of electrical power generation. The total present capacity of Vadodara and Mangrol plants is 815 MW. The company has a vision to transform itself into a national level power sector enterprise. The company is having its registered office at P.O. Petrochemical, Vadodara, Gujarat.
Western Electricity Supply Company of Orissa Ltd (WESCO) was incorporated as a Public Ltd Company on November19, 1997 to carry out the distribution and retail supply business of electricity in the entire western region of Orissa. The Company secured the Certificate of Commencement of business on 30.12.1997 and started functioning as a wholly owned subsidiary of Grid Corporation of Orissa Ltd (GRIDCO), a Govt of Orissa power utility, from November 26, 1998 under latter’s Distribution and Retail Supply License. Subsequently, the Company obtained its own license for Retail Supply from Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) with effect from April 1, 1999. After privatisation of Distribution business under power sector reform process ,WESCO became a subsidiary of BSES Ltd , the premier Mumbai based Power Utility with acquisition 51 % majority share-holding.
The Government of India has initiated reforms for liberalizing the power sector in the country to contain T and D losses, burgeoning subsidy burden and rampant corruption and for improving overall efficiency by making every individual accountable. The enactment of Indian Electricity Act 2003 was the first step in this direction. Acting as State Transmission Utility (STU), PSTCL has been entrusted with the transmission business of the erstwhile Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB). Functions of State Load Despatch Center shall also be discharged by PSTCL.
