Industry bodies demand roll back of power tariff hike
Industries and commercial establishments of Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad have vehemently opposed the new power tariffs in UP and demanded a rollback of the hike.
Various associations of industries and traders in the three UP-NCR cities have termed the hike as 'steep' and that it would increase overhead costs and result in losses. The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) hiked power tariffs for industrial and commercial sectors last week with retrospective effect from October 1, even as domestic consumers were left untouched.
Residents' Welfare Associations in the cities, however, anticipate the fear of greater inflationary pressures as a collateral effect resulting from increase in costs of production. SM Singh, president of Federation of Sector 62 RWAs in Noida said that overhead costs are bound to go up due to the hike. The burden will ultimately be pushed on consumers of manufacturing and retail goods, he added.
