The Bokaro Power Supply Company (BPSCL), which supplies power and steam to the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) and the township, is getting appreciation for generating record power in February. The BPSCL, a 302 mw power plant, is a joint venture of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and Damoder Valley Corporation (DVC).
The Bokaro township is full of banners displaying BPSCL's record generation in February while residents are happy to get freedom from power cuts. The company has made a strong comeback from the bad phase when poor generation has led power crisis in the township.
SAIL Chairman CS Verma has appreciated BPSCL CEO Rakesh Bhargava for the performance of his team. Improvement in power and steam production has boosted production in the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL).
In February, the BPSCL generated 182 MW power, raising it from between 30 to 110 MW in the past couple of years. In 2010 and before that, frequent power cuts had made life pathetic for the residents and electricity crisis had affected the BSL production.
However, BPSCL officials never lost their confidence and continued with damage control exercise which helped them to recover. Their efforts, however, improved the situation and in about two years the company overcomes the bad phase.
