Hydropower firms expand their operations in the sector
Various hydropower firms have decided to venture into the power industry, especially into renewables. After Himachal Pradesh-based Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVNL), which expressed a desire to enter solar and other non-convention energy sectors besides transmission, now Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam (UJVNL) will soon start the gas-based power business and enter other sectors of conventional and non-conventional sources of energy. GP Patel, MD, UJVN, said the projects will be installed at Haridwar and Kashpur. Besides, THDC India (THDCIL) too has entered into a joint venture with the Uttar Pradesh government to set up a 1,320 MW Khurja superthermal power plant in Bulandshahar.
