SunEdison LLC has announced that it is now managing more than 1 gw of solar photovoltaic (PV) assets through its three renewable operations centers (ROCs). These include plants that SunEdison owns, as well as third parties who have come to SunEdison to utilise the platform. The flagship ROC is at the company’s headquarters in Belmont, California, with additional facilities in Chennai, India and Madrid, Spain.

Achieving this milestone is a significant moment in the company's history, said SunEdison VP and General Manager for Global Services Mark McLanahan. When it comes to asset management, SunEdison is in a unique position to serve its customers.

The ROCs feature monitoring and reporting tools to detect anomalies in system performance, including monitoring of weather stations, sensors for ambient and panel temperatures, inverters, AC subsystems and other electrical components.

The ROCs also employ technicians to diagnose the cause and determine the best course of redress. However, SunEdison notes that it is able to solve many issues remotely, without dispatching technicians to project sites.

The company operates its three ROCs continually year-round, configured with redundancy to avoid disruption of service. SunEdison is a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. (St. Peters, Missouri, US). MEMC is currently considering a motion to change its name to SunEdison.
