Apollo keen for gas-based power
As part of its energy saving initiatives, Apollo Tyres is mulling for setting up a gas-based power for its Kalamassery production unit.
The company's Chairman, Onkar S Kanwar, said the commissioning of the gas pipelines of Gas Authority of India from the proposed LNG terminal of Petronet LNG at Puthuvypeen, offers good opportunity for the company to utilise its potential to source gas for power requirements.
Kanwar told the media on the eve of the company's AGM that Apollo had invested Rs 25 crore in its Perambra unit near Kochi to shift from furnace oil to coal, which has given one third reductions in energy costs.
