Amar Kaul, Territory Vice President - India, Middle East and South Africa Compressed Air Systems and Services, Ingersoll Rand said that the company´s new product offerings ensures less energy consumption and maximises energy efficient systems.
What are your initiatives to encourage local innovations to enhance energy efficiency?
Compressed air is indispensable in every type of power plant. It is one of the most important and critical utility used for operating and controlling the instrumentation system. It is also contributes in keeping a pollution free environment. Hence it is very important to design a compressed air system which is highly reliable, efficient, provides right flow and pressure at right price.
Our approach has been able to understand the requirement in terms of application, optimum and critical pressure and flow requirements, load unload pattern, plant layout and reliability. Power saved, is power sold for power plants. We designed the compressed air system keeping in mind continuous usage for one year without maintenance. Ingersoll Rand offers highly reliable proven equipment with advanced system controllers.
We have an expertise in executing turnkey installation of the entire compressor house and the compressed air system beyond compressor house. Importantly, we have demonstrated capability of EPC and erection of equipment like compressors, heat exchangers, dryers, filtration units, cooling towers, controls, instrumentation, piping and valves. Further, this equipment can be integrated based on criteria decided with customers. Utility arrangements like plant lighting, drinking and wastewater system etc., can also be provided.
We take single point responsibility for the entire scope until handing over of the plant, thus ensuring peace of mind to our customers.
What kind of job opportunities are available in this field?
Business is growing and so is the requirement of headcounts. We believe in nurturing internal talent, investing in their growth and development, and staying ahead of the curve. Sustainability being one of the core principles of Ingersoll Rand, our new product offerings ensureless energy consumtion and fulfill the customer´s requirements of energy efficient systems.
We give utmost importance to employee development - one such example is Ingersoll Rand University which offers various online, classroom and project-based learnings, while addressing the functional needs and soft skills of the organisation. We believe employee engagement is the key for innovation and growth.
Tell us about your growth in the power division and the products introduced for this sector?
With varying compressed air demand in power plants, the key is to have effective capacity control in air compressors for optimal efficiency. We understand this and provide advanced capacity controls for the whole compressed air system. Our offerings of energy efficient compressors for new and existing power plants and the new low pressure air compressor for low pressure applications is helping us cater to this market. We conduct air audits for customers to explore the possibility of energy conservation through technology upgradation. Our compressed air assessment team has the extensive knowledge and experience required to assess, analyse, diagnose and recommend how to best take care of your complete compressed air system.
Could you expand on your strategies for the Indian market?
Our strategy has been to understand customer needs based on the quality of compressed air needed, which varies for each industry. For e.g. what is right for steel or textile industries, may not be right for the power industry.
As mentioned, within power plants we offer different solutions for instrument air, service air and handling.
Recently, we offered a centrifugal compressor for low pressure/high flow ash handling application which has resulted in considerable savings in terms of total cost of ownership (TCO). It is our continuous endeavour to re-engineer our products to meet the process needs.
How do you assess the market scenario in India?
In the coming years, there is tremendous potential for all the suppliers to power plants. Ingersoll Rand has made inroads with successful installations of centrifugal compressors and oil free rotary compressors. We are seeing significant portion of our business coming from the power sector.
