UP appeals for coal to Lalitpur thermal power stn
UP Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who also holds the state´s power portfolio, has pitched for the Centre to allow supply of coal to a Bajaj-owned thermal power station in Lalitpur through MoU, till the time a formal coal linkage is not given.
In a letter to the Prime Minister´s Office, Yadav said the 1,980 MW power station was set up after considering the coal policy of 2007, following which the application for coal linkage was sent to the ministry in 2009. In 2013, the cabinet committee for economic affairs (CCEA) allowed companies associated with Coal India Limited to supply coal under the MoU route to the power plant.
Yadav said he approached Centre after learning that the coal supply to the power plant would be made only till June this year, after which the plant may come to a grinding halt.
