Incorporated under Indian Companies Act 1956 in September 2005, Maharashtra State Power Generation Co (Mahagenco) is engaged in the generation and supply of electricity. Powered by a dedicated and committed highly skilled work force of over 15,000 employees. <p></p> <p> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Ash utilisation policy </span><br /> Mahagenco has bagged a prestigious national award for formulating ash utilisation policy of highest standard. It has received the award at the two-day Fly Ash National Conference on February 27 and 28 2017.</p> <p>Maharashtra was the first state to formulate and implement the State Thermal Power Plant Ash Utilisation Policy in 2016. Mahagenco, subsequently, took the lead in implementing the policy. The state government had set-up a company - Maha Gen Management Services (MahaGeMS) - to manage the ash generated at all government-run and private thermal plants in the state. It is also being used as an ingredient to build low-cost housing in the state.</p> <p> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Operational highlights</span><br /> Mahagenco has an installed capacity of 13,817 MW. This comprises of thermal and a gas-based generating station at Uran, having an installed capacity of 672 MW. The hydro electric projects in Maharashtra were designed, erected and commissioned by the Water Resource Department. After commissioning, these projects were handed over on long term lease to Mahagenco for operation and maintenance. Presently there are 27 hydel projects, having capacity of 2,585 MW.</p> <p>An environmentally conscious company, Mahagenco has a clear vision for Green Power for the consumers of Maharashtra. Accordingly, the company has commissioned 130 MW solar power projects till date. It is implementing R&amp;M work of 210 MW unit at Koradi. Feasibility study for implementation of R&amp;M work at Chandrapur, Koradi, Bhusawal, Parli and Nasik is on.</p> <p> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Key success factors</span><br /> Mahagenco has the highest overall generation and thermal installed capacity amongst all the state power generation utilities in India. In terms of installed capacity, it is the second highest generation company after NTPC. The company generates power for more than 15,000,000 consumers in Maharashtra at economical and affordable rates. It has a gross fixed asset base of Rs. 28,346 crore with an annual turnover of about Rs. 16,538 crore.</p> <p>The company strongly believes in continuous training and skill upgradation of its employees and runs training centres at Koradi and Nasik. Similarly, training sub-centres have been established at all major power stations. Mahagenco has pioneered the use of PC based Simulator for training generation engineers, both within and outside the company.</p> <p>Mahagenco has established its first of its kind centralised generation control room at corporate office for monitoring on-line real time parameters for economical load dispatch.</p> <p> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Certifications:</span><br /> </p> <ul> <li>All major thermal, hydel and gas turbine power stations of the company have adopted the ISO 9001:2000 certification.</li> <li>Mahagenco has received certification under ISO:14001 and ISO:18001 for its major power stations at Chandrapur, Koradi, Khaperkheda, Nasik, Paras, Parli and at Koyna and Uran power stations.</li></ul>
