Demand is set to be driven by smart grids and T&D
Syed Sajjadh Ali, Managing Director – India, Electrical Sector, Eaton
What are the opportunities you see for the switchgear industry?
The growth of industrial and commercial infrastructure in India coupled with the rising energy costs has fuelled the need for more reliable and energy efficient power management solutions. According to a recent industry forecast report, the domestic and industrial switchgear market in India is likely to grow at a CAGR of over 9 per cent over the next couple of years. With switchgears being a vital component of electrical systems, we see an upward trend for the low, high and medium voltage switchgears. Demand is set to be driven by significant investment in smart grids and transmission & distribution infrastructure. The increase in civil construction activity and the growing demand for renewable sources of energy like wind, solar, etc., are presenting a huge opportunity for the Indian electrical equipment industry and will boost the growth of the switchgear market.
How about the demand-supply scenario?
Rising costs of raw material and high capital expenditure have always been challenges while planning capacity addition or ramping up production. As discussed earlier, there is considerable increase in demand expected for power management solutions given high investments in power generation and distribution infrastructure. There may be a demand-supply gap but to overcome this shortfall, the Indian government has taken steps to increase capacity addition and boost local manufacturing. This is expected to aid the demand-supply shortfall and make deliveries more timely and efficient.
Both globally and in India, Eaton is focused on providing sustainable power management solutions that help customers manage electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power more efficiently, reliably, safely and sustainably. Eaton´s Power Distribution products today provides comprehensive solutions helping customers generate, distribute and consume electrical power safely, reliably and efficiently. These solutions encompass low voltage and medium voltage distribution & control and automation products and services to help customers manage electrical power across utility, industrial, renewable energy, buildings and infrastructure markets.
With two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Chennai and Pondicherry and an in-house engineering centre at Pune, Eaton is well-equipped to meet this demand.
