Highest-growth (power) generation company in the last year (public company- hydro power) - NHPC

NHPC, a Government of India enterprise, was incorporated in the year 1975 with an objective to plan, promote and organise an integrated and efficient development of hydroelectric power in all aspects. Later on, NHPC expanded its objectives to include the development of power in all its aspects through conventional and non-conventional sources in India and abroad. Initially, on incorporation, NHPC took over the execution of Salal Stage-I, Bairasiul and Loktak Hydro-electric Projects from the Central Hydroelectric Project Construction and Control Board. Since then, it has executed 20 projects on ownership basis including projects executed by NHDC, a subsidiary company of NHPC. NHPC has also executed five projects with an installed capacity of 89.25 MW on turnkey basis. Two of these projects have been commissioned in the neighbouring countries, i.e., Nepal and Bhutan.

<p>Currently, NHPC is a Mini Ratna Category-I Enterprise of the Government of India. With a total consolidated capacity of 7,071 MW, NHPC is ranked as a premier organisation in the country for the development of hydropower. </p>
<p>NHPC has been making efforts to provide power from varied sources of energy. At present, it has a 50 MW wind power project in Jaisalmer and a 50 MW solar power plant at Theni/ Dindigul District in Tamil Nadu. In addition to the above, the development of 8 MW capacity out of 72 MW (+10 per cent) wind power project is under the advanced stage of tender at Agali site, Palakkad, Kerela. Apart from this, in a joint venture with UPNEDA, it is also in the process of executing a 32 MW solar power project in Uttar Pradesh. Further, NHPC has obtained inter-state power trading license from CERC to undertake inter-state trading in electricity across the country.</p>
<p> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Major operational highlights for the financial year 2017-18: </span><br />
-On the financial fronts, NHPC has registered a total income of Rs 84.25 billion and Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs 27.58 billion in financial year 2017-18 as compared to Rs 87.28 billion and Rs 27.95 billion, respectively in FY17.<br />
- Power stations have achieved a generation of 22,975 Mus, which include deemed generation of 350.2 MUs from Chutak and Nimmo Bazgo Power Stations. <br />
- Highest ever Plant Availability Factor (PAF) of 85.32 per cent was achieved against the PAF of 83.41 per cent during the previous financial year. <br />
- Successfully commissioned all three units of Kishanganga HE Project (3 x 110 MW) at Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir, in March, 2018. <br />
- Further, the company also commissioned its first 50 MW solar PV project in Theni/ Dindigul District of Tamil Nadu.</p>
<p> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Expansion Plans</span><br />
Presently, two projects of the company, namely, Parbati-II HE Project and Subansiri Lower HE Project with a total capacity of 2,800 MW are under construction. Due to acute geological conditions being faced in the excavation of Head Race Tunnel (HRT) of Parbati-II HE Project (800 MW), the project has now been rescheduled for commissioning in December, 2021. Plans are also being placed for the early resumption of works at Subansiri Lower HE Project (2,000 MW). Apart from this, NHPC is in the process of obtaining clearances for six prospective projects, having a planned capacity of 5,795 MW. It is also envisaging hydropower projects having a planned capacity of 1,934 MW through joint ventures. Another hydro project with a capacity of 66 MW is being taken up in Manipur through its subsidiary viz., Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Corporation. </p>
