NTPC puts its nuke projects on hold
National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has put temporary pause on its plans for setting up nuclear power projects due to peoples’ agitation. The country’s largest power utility has plans to set up nuclear plants in association with Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL).
The state utility is also mulling over exiting the recently formed joint venture with NPCIL. It has already begun to relocate employees assigned for the projects due to uncertainty in the nuclear power arena. The development came after witnessing extended delay in NPCIL’s projects in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
While considerations revolve around the safety of the people living near the plant, NPCIL has also been facing a delay in acquisition of land, all of which have adversely impacted the project.
