Region and State-wise T&D Losses During 2009-11

As per Central Electricity Authority''s (CEA) report, the state-wise Transmission & Distribution losses for the year 2009-10 & 2010-11 (provisional) are given below:

Percentage Transformation, Transmission and Distribution losses (Including Energy Un-accounted for)

The responsibility of reduction of transmission and distribution (T&D) losses in the distribution network is with the state government and power utilities. However, with the aim to reduce these losses in the country and to improve the power distribution sector of state utilities, the Accelerated Power Development & Reforms Programme (APDRP) for Xth Plan was launched during 2002-03 as additional central assistance to the states for strengthening and up-gradation of sub-transmission and distribution systems. The programme had two component, investment and incentive with the main objectives of reduction in Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses and improve quality and reliability of supply of power. Under APDRP, 574 projects worth Rs 17,329 crore was sanctioned and Rs 7,777 crore was utilised by the Government of India. The AT&C loss at national level reduced from 38.86 per cent in 2001-02 to 27.37 per cent in 2008-09. As per CEA's report, T&D losses at national level has been reduced from more than 27 per cent in year 2007-08 to 24 (provisional) in 2010-11.
