Noida Authority to generate power from waste
The Noida Authority is to generate electricity by recycling the municipal solid waste. The Authority has identified around eight hectares of land in Sector 123 for the development of a landfill site and is now working to generate electricity by recycling the municipal solid waste collected there. The proposal for electricity generation from the waste site has been included in the project report for the plant currently being finalised by the Authority. For the past six years, the proposal for the landfill site in Noida had been gathering dust. The Authority has begun work afresh to build the plant because improper handling of municipal waste has been increasing pollution in the city. According to the proposal, around 12 mw would be generated. The Authority has invited expressions of interest from consultants for setting up of the plant. As part of the project, the Authority also plans to generate road re-surfacing material by recycling polythene and plastic bags. A number of waste segregation facilities would be set up to separate bio-degradable waste material from other categories. The Authority is planning to build the plant in the build-own-operate-transfer model.
